A man in Australia hit it big, winning almost a million dollars in the lottery. But instead of living large, Peter Charleton decided to give it all away to his family, friends and struggling strangers.
The 47-year-old from Victoria took home nearly $900-thousand, and he says it was “a really good feeling.” But after a couple of weeks, he realized he didn’t want all that money and decided to share the wealth. “I don’t feel comfortable keeping all this money to myself,” Charleton says. “And so I didn’t. I felt more comfortable knowing that I’d given it all away and done a few things for myself.”
He only kept enough to pay off his mortgage and buy a used car, then gave the rest to friends, family and struggling strangers. “There’s such a pleasure in being kind and being able to help people,” the generous man says.
