American adults are reading fewer books than we read a few years ago.

On average, we read 12.6 books last year. That’s three books fewer than were read between 2001 and 2016.

15.6 were read in 2016, 14.2 in 2005, 15.8 in 2002, 14.5 in 2001, and 18.5 in 1999.

The theory is that there are more alternative entertainment choices these days.
