Seasonal workers who work during the ski season near Truckee are struggling to find housing and it's getting so tough, that many employees are having to commute from distances like Sacramento or Reno. It's gotten so bad that the town of Truckee is now getting ready to impose limits on short-term rentals, hoping that by doing this, it will lead to more long-term rentals (by those employees).

Truckee is capping short-term rentals to 1,255 rentals. The mayor of Truckee says there will be a phase out of short-term rentals and multi-family units because those units tend to be the most affordable units for sale and for rent. They say there is a definite correlation between short-term rentals and affordable housing.

A waiting list will be developed for those that want to rent their homes for short-terms and new buyers will now have to wait a year to be added to the wait list. Truckee officials are hoping that with these new standards in place, Truckee area employees will have an easier time finding a place to live.
