Here’s another text scam to watch out for, and how to avoid it.

The text starts out: “Free Msg- (Insert financial institution name here) Bank Fraud Alert- Did You Attempt an Instant Payment in the amount of $5,000.00? REPLY YES or NO or 1 To STOP ALERTS.”

It’s how the scammers eventually gain access to your bank accounts.

Security professionals urge everyone to ignore the text completely. Don’t even reply “STOP ALERTS”. If you do, the scammers now know that they have a real phone number they can use again, or sell to other scammers. This also applies to scams through the Internet.
