People are going back to the gym, and it’s not just to get back into physical shape.
25% of the gyms in the U.S. closed permanently during the pandemic. But now, post lockdown, people are joining gyms again in droves. Gym memberships & gym check-ins have seen the biggest increases since 2019. Sure, many gym goers want to improve their physical health by unloading their pandemic weight gain. But just as many want to improve their mental well being. Gyms provide a place to gather with friends & socialize.
Many people want to work out, but still might be reluctant to be in a crowd. One gym chain, Blink Fitness, has come up with an app that people can check before they go to the gym. The app will tell them how many people are at their gym so they can delay their workout if the gym is too crowded.
