The Petaluma Police Department issued a warning about a scam that’s targeting local residents.
The scammers found a way to “spoof” the Petaluma PD phone number so that caller ID shows that it’s the Petaluma PD calling.
The scammers are asking people for their personal information. The Petaluma police stress that they would never call anyone asking for payment of outstanding traffic citations, parking tickets, etc. Petaluma PD is happy to report that many people receiving the bogus calls are simply hanging up.
If you live in the area, and have suffered a financial loss because of the scam, call the Petaluma Police Department non-emergency line at 707-778-4372.
