Firefighters battling the Washburn fire near Yosemite are trying some new methods to protect the giant sequoias that are standing in the fire’s path.
They’re using a sprinkler system to protect the bases of the trees. They’re also wrapping foil around the trucks for added protection. Some of these magnificent sequoias are over 2000 years old, and 20 stories tall.
Some of the smoke from the Washburn fire will be drifting into the Bay Area later today, especially in the North and East Bay regions.
