Restaurants around the country are doing away with the traditional way of tipping your server.
Instead 20% is automatically added to the total. That money is then pooled and distributed to ALL the restaurant employees…people working in the back of the restaurant, in addition to the servers themselves. The idea is to make the distribution of the money more equitable.
The downside so far? Hiring and keeping qualified servers at the restaurants that have instituted such a policy is becoming more difficult because tips aren’t going to them directly.
