The high school fall athletic season is about to start up, but there’s a problem. There’s a severe shortage of referees across the country.
Take Georgia for example. In one county, they need an additional 15 officials in order to successfully pull off the fall athletic season. In fact, the Georgia High School Association is considering moving some games to either Thursday or Saturday to cover the shortage of officials.
Across the country, about 50,000 refs in all sports have quit in the last three years.
