Digital driver’s licenses may be coming to California sooner than you think.
Governor Newsom recently announced that the DMV could start issuing digital licenses to a limited number of drivers as soon as this spring. The California Department of Technology is working closely with Apple and Android to create a secure file that you’ll keep in your digital “wallet”.
You’ll also be able to use the digital license to board domestic flights, and access state services. And since it will be on your phone, transactions will be completely contactless.
Right now, Arizona, Colorado and Maryland accept and offer digital IDs.
