If you've been hiking, there's a good chance you've seen them.
Stacked rocks along the trail.
Sometimes in riverbeds.
They have a name... cairns... and are often used to mark trails. But increasingly, people are building them... for no reason at all.
Park rangers in Yosemite are now giving hikers permission to knock them down... as they point out that the unnatural constructions go against the “Leave No Trace” practices that visitors should abide by while visiting the park.
