More Americans are waiting until their mid-30's before buying their first home.

The average age of a first-time homeowner in the U.S. is now 36 - the highest on record and a three-year increase from 2021, when the average age was 33.

It's a sign that high housing costs and rising interest rates have made owning a home a pipe dream for many young people.

In fact, Boomers (ages 58-76) now make up the largest share of homebuyers at 39%, over millennials at 29% and Generation X at 24%.
