Pigeon Point Lighthouse, the tallest operating lighthouse on the West Coast, is set to undergo a $16 million renovation in 2024.

The lighthouse, located between Santa Cruz and Half Bay Moon, has been closed to the public since 2001 due to safety concerns.

The rehabilitation project will focus on refurbishing or replacing ironwork throughout the lighthouse, with a major emphasis on repairing the upper cast-iron ring that was compromised in 2001.

The lighthouse, which has guided mariners since 1872, is expected to reopen to the public within two years after the completion of the construction.
