California's mountain ranges have seen significantly less snowfall this winter compared to last year, according to the California Department of Water Resources.
The first snow survey of the season found that the snowpack level is currently at 30% of the average to date.
Last year, the Central Sierra Nevada snowpack was measured at over 200% above normal for that time of year.
The snowpack measurements are important for determining how much water will eventually flow through California's waterways and reservoirs.
