Why Do We Have a Leap Year?

February 29

Leap Day, which falls on February 29, occurs every four years to align the calendar with the Earth's orbit around the Sun.

In 2024, we will experience a leap year, adding an extra day to February.

The concept of leap years dates back to ancient Rome, where February originally had 28 days due to superstitions about even numbers.

To account for the Earth's orbit taking slightly longer than 365 days, a leap day is added every four years, with exceptions to maintain accuracy.

This adjustment ensures that our calendar remains in sync with the seasons over time.
