NASA plans to chase the solar eclipse on April 8 with rockets and jet planes to study space weather secrets from 50,000 feet in the air.
Three research teams will place scientific instruments aboard NASA's WB-57 jet planes to image the sun's corona and measure the Earth's ionosphere.
The eclipse provides a unique opportunity to study the sun's corona in detail, with improved cameras and spectrometers to measure temperature and composition.
The jets will extend the totality duration by up to 25%, allowing for more precise measurements of the eclipse's effects on space weather.
