Families in California face high grocery prices, with a single Rubyglow pineapple selling for $395.99 at a SoCal retailer.

The luxury fruit, produced by Fresh Del Monte, is pinkish-red on the outside and yellow on the inside. The limited supply of Rubyglow pineapples is a result of 15 years of research by Del Monte.

Despite the high cost, luxury fruits like the Rubyglow pineapple, Honeycrisp apples, and Sumo Citrus are gaining popularity among high-end consumers.

Grocery prices in California fell in April for the first time in 12 months, according to the Labor Department's consumer price index.
