Hospital Security Guard Earns PhD

His name is Russell Ledet. DOCTOR Ledet to you and me.

Dr. Ledet enrolled in the Navy after high school because he thought it was “a way out”. In the Navy he was told that anyone could succeed if they worked hard enough. While he was stationed in Pensacola he met his wife who told him that he was smart, but he just didn’t know it.

They moved to Louisiana where he enrolled at Southern University and A&M College on a full scholarship. Even though his tuition was covered, he still needed to earn money to make ends meet, and that’s when he began working as a security guard at Baton Rouge General Medical Center at night while going to classes during the day.

On the day his second daughter was born in 2018, he got the news that he was accepted at Tulane Medical School on a full scholarship. He’d already managed to get a PhD in molecular oncology. It's hard to imagine how exhausted he must have been. Here's his story.

Jack and Carolyn talked about this on the Morning Breeze. Listen here:
