"In his 25 years in education, Mr. Leonard is a superhero to thousands of students, teens and adults alike. Mr. Leonard is a desperately needed father figure to many —- a shoulder to cry on, a trusted ear to confide in, and a rock to depend on. It is no surprise high school seniors go out of their way to ask Mr. Leonard to deliver their graduation commencement address. Outside long days in the classroom, Mr. Leonard virtually teaches practical Spanish to adults in several community centers across the Bay Area. I had the opportunity to take one of his classes, and I noticed students couldn't stop grinning at Mr. Leonard's wisecracks. On weekends, he's a paid comedian! As a role model citizen of exceptional character, I don't know anyone more deserving of recognition than Mr. Leonard."
